Baltimore Comic Con

My trip to Baltimore Comic Con was my first ever convention on the east coast. I would say I was not disappointed. I highly recommend going to this amazing convention.

If you are a fan of comic books well this the convention for you. I personally love going to comic convention to meet my favorite artist and writers of my favorite comic book series. This was an awesome experience for me and my friends Seth and Julie Barclay.

This now is one of my favorite convention to attend. I think my comic book diving skills gotten better.

If you want a great time seeing your favorite artist and writer this the place to go. Also if you go try out the crab cakes.

Tommy Gun Wizards

My new pick for my comic book read it Tommy Gun Wizards from Darkhorse comics. This Harry Potter meets up with the Untouchables.

What if the Prohibition period happened in a different way? Illegal alcohol is not the problem it’s magic. Crime is committed by using magic.

I found myself taking by the way the writer used the concept of magic to replace bootleg alcohol. I highly recommend reading this title.

Mr. and Mrs. X

This past week in comic books a new on going series came out with Gambit and Rogue call Mr. and Mrs. X. The book is written by Kelly Thompson and the art is by Oscar Bazaldua.

I think my first introduction to the characters was in the X-men cartoon on Fox. I remembered every Saturday morning waking up in anticipation of seeing the X-men cartoon. My favorite character was Wolverine but the chemistry that Gambit and Rogue had on the show was something different. I guess both characters were actually southerners one from Mississippi and the other from Louisiana and found that very different for me. The reason for that is because I was born and raised in a small town in Mississippi and seeing both characters talked and interacting was kind of fun too watch.

After reading Kelly Thompson mini series Rogue and Gambit I was really happy that Marvel did a mini series for those characters. When Marvel announced the series I never thought they would be married. I really recommend reading this book if you are a fan of the characters read the book. Go check out Mr. and Mrs. X.

Heroes Con 2018

Once again summer time is upon us and this means I travel to Charlotte for Heroes Con. I think this con is one of the best conventions in the United States. I think for a person who really into comic books this is the convention for that person. It’s strictly for the artist and creators of comic books. You get the opportunity to talk to your favorite artist and writers. The con is so fan friendly. You can actually have a conversation with your favorite creators of the very comic book you loved as a kid and into your adulthood.

So I recommend you attend Heroes Con in Charlotte and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

No More Lovable Losers

The Chicago Cubs are now World Series Champions. Why is this such an important thing? The Chicago Cubs have not won a World Series since 1908 if you do the math that's 108 years without a title. I'm doing this topic because I'm a Chicago Cubs fan. I have been a fan for years. I remember watching the Cubs the first time in 1988 at the age of 12. I think the reason I really feel in love with the Cubs is the way their games were been broadcasted.

The great Harry Carey made the games very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. After listening to him talk I was hooked. I always loved to hear Harry Carey sing, "Take Me out to the Ballpark." I remember watching Andre Dawson and Ryne Sandberg playing and I thought to myself these guys are awesome.

Over the years I've watched the Cubs come close and fall short. I remember watching the 2003 NLCS and hoping for a World Series appearance and a championship, but that hope was destroyed. I remembered watching that game waiting to celebrate a victory, but that did not happened. The Cubs were leading the series 3-0 against the Florida Marlin and only a few outs away winning the pennant. A dream of going to the World Series were crushed win Steve Bartman caught a foul ball that Moises Alou could have gotten. After that happened the entire series was a disaster.

The Steve Bartman incident to many was compared to the curse of the goat. After losing the 2003 the Cubs returned to the playoffs in 2007 and 2008, but never came close to winning the pennant like in 2003. So in 2011 the Cubs hired Theo Epstein as president of baseball operations. I thought to myself this a great acquisition and reason I thought it was great deal because Theo Epstein helped the Boston Red Sox win two titles. After a three years rebuilding process the Cubs made it the playoff in 2015.

After making the playoffs in 2015 I was so excited for 2016. I had hope and a certain expectation for the Cubs for 2016. It has been an incredible year for the Cubs and I hope there will be many more World Series championships in the coming years.

Congratulations to the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are no longer the lovable losers now you can called them the lovable winners.

GlitterBomb

Glitterbomb is so refreshing to me. This is one of my favorite books right now. It is written by Jim Zub and art by Djibril Morissette-Phan. This book was recommended by a friend. At first I thought to myself do I really need to pick up another title? I'm glad I listened to my friend. I will I'm really enjoying this title.

Glitterbomb #3

This comic book is one of the surprise titles for 2016 in my opinion. If you want to read something different and intriguing for a change I recommend reading Glitterbomb from Image Comics.

Fayetteville Comic Con

This past weekend I attended Fayetteville Comic Con with Bryan SilverBaX. Fayetteville Comic Con is located at Fayetteville, North Carolina. With the flooding in North Carolina due to Hurricane Matthew I thought the con was going to be cancelled, but it was not.

This was my first time ever going to this convention in Fayetteville and I would say it was fun. The con was kind of low key there were celebrities, artist and writers at the con. While I was there I found some comics I needed for collection in the dollar bin. I found a  treasure trove of comics.

I really enjoyed talking to the vendors and artist at the con. I always tell people who are collecting comics you can find rare comics and comics that you need to complete your collection. It's a thrill to find your favorite comic book at a convention.

Fayetteville Comic Con was fun and had a great time talking to people who are fans and also people who was coming for the first time to the con. With so much going on in our society it's cool to get away for a weekend or a day to escape from the norm. Escape to a place where you have common interest in things like comics, fantasy or just to see your favorite celebrity at a con. To me that's what make it so enjoyable. I really enjoyed myself and if you are in Fayetteville, North Carolina I recommend you check out the Fayetteville Comic Con next year.

This week in comics

This week I picked up I Hate Fairyland, Trinity, and Glitterbomb at my local comic book shop. Glitterbomb was recommended by a friend. I will say Glitterbomb was not what expected. I like the premise of the book I will give this book a chance. Once again I Hate Fairyland by Skottie Young was hilariously and entertaining.
